A Summer Affair by Susan Wiggs
Description: Romance set in 1880s San Francisco, California. As
Rudyard Kipling said, "San Francisco is a mad city, inhabited for the most part
by perfectly inane people whose women are of remarkable beauty." Yeah, pretty
much.
Well, actually the woman of our story, Isabel Fish-Wooten is a self styled
English woman of adventure and it is the hero who is quite lovely, but whatever.
A wonderfully well researched slice of romance in the history of the area I
live.
The hero is a dedicated physician, who makes his work among the under
privileged.
It's a fun quirky adventure made all the better for being set in the history
of the place where I live. Ferries from Alameda with their shipments of
vegetables, the houses of the rich on Nob Hill, the Opium trade when it was
legal. Interesting, informative, and a fun romance.
