Description: Slightly surreal look at a relationship
between father and son. Story-telling is the central
theme.
I thought this was a damn cool movie. It was full of
emotional resonance as well as Tim Burton's usual
fantastic visuals. I adored Ewan McGregor as the young
Ed - he was beautiful and excited by every possibility
of life.
Really that's what this movie is about - being open to
the possibilities. Conflict develops between father
and son when the son doubts the truthfulness of his
father's stories. The ultimate veracity of the stories
isn't the issue. The son's narrow vision of the world
closes him off from his father. Of course, dad needs
to learn to listen, and more importantly, state his
willingness to listen to his son.
The movie is heart warming, gorgeous, and bittersweet
by turns. Makes me want to run home and ask my parents
for stories. :)
