Winter in Wineland
Ah, the Northern California winter. Bright sunny days on the coast and wine festivals
with the occasional superbowl reference.
Really, you can pick just about any part of Hwy 1 and get
spectacular scenery and winter really is one of the best times to visit the coast. In the summer, the fog rolls in,
but in the winter, when it's not raining, clear blue skies. Seals sunning themselves on rocks.
Wind blowing along sheer cliffs as the tide waves wash the shore tidy.
After doing our best to induce vertigo on cliffs, we made our
way in land along the lazy Russian River valley to wine country.
Hazy hills, sleepy vineyards. Even though we never actually
participate in the wine festival itself (the price is a bit steep) the festival
atmosphere is quite nice.
Also, since the majority of the wineries in the are do not
charge to taste, this is a fairly economical area to go taste some really nice
wines.
