Gay Pride Weekend
June 29-30.
Not wishing to steal anyone's hard
won sexual orientation choice, I'm gunna say I'm not gay, nor do I play
a gay on t.v. Although, I have now officially been asked by every single
friend that I have. In some cases twice.
However, this year Karen and I did
go to the annual Dyke March, which takes place the night before the Gay
Pride parade. Something about the parade being to patriarchal and male
centric. My friend Christy was supposed to go, but her partner chipped
a tooth and was in dental hell. Poor thing. So, we met up with a friend
of mine at Dolores park and watched her ride her bike in the parade.
My Goddess this was impressive. 50,000
women and transgenders marching for their right to be whatever they want,
with whomever they want. So, of course Karen and I marched, cause you know,
why not. We have ovaries We have the right to march. We also bought multi
colored whistles. And whistled with pride (I have to be careful of my voice.
I lose it a couple times a year. Ever since this one Metallica concert.)
Of course we dressed for the event
in black leather and in Karen's case red suede boots, which got several
pings from a variety of genders.
Sometimes, I'm filled with incredible
pride that I live in a place where this kind of thing can happen. It was
San Francisco. It was the Castro. It was a lot of fun. It was very tiring
and we watched the actual parade on t.v.
Next year, sneakers.
