Day Trip Feature
Sonoma Spa on the Plaza
Crystal's Review 11.05.2000
Karen and I went to the Sonoma
Spa on the Plaza for my birthday.
It was incredible. We both got one of the spa packages which included
an Esalen massage, a facial, and a body treatment (in this case rose petal
cream). By the time we were finished, I felt boneless with pleasure and
we smelled good too, which is always a plus.
Highlights, hmmm...I've never had a body treatment before. Basically,
they put us in a sauna for 30 wonderful minutes of heat torpor induced
bliss. (I guess you'd get the impression I liked the sauna.) Then they
took us to a room with dim lighting and mood music. They slathered us with
goop (that would be the rose petal cream) and wrapped us in heat blankets.
I just lay there on this tiny little bed in the dim light. I listened to
the music and drifted mentally. It's very hard for me to relax and do nothing.
So, this was very nice.
Of course, the massage and facial were bone meltingly good. I mean people
are massaging you, what's not to like.
The prices were pretty reasonable and the Spa is right on the main plaza
(thus the name) in Sonoma.
I've been to Sonoma many times and it's very small town America nice.
If you visit, leave plenty of time to stroll around. The main square
in Sonoma is bordered on one side by one of the missions and there are
plenty of cute little shops to drift through. One of the better shops is
the Church Mouse, which is a high class kitchy thrift store. There is also
a winery within walking distance from the plaza.
Word to the wise, don't try and park on the plaza. Park behind the mission
where there is plenty of space.
Karen's Review
As a treat for Crystal's birthday, she and I went up to the Sonoma
Spa on the Plaza for the works. We were baked in a sauna, covered in
a mixture of rose petals and heavy whipping cream and cocooned in hot blankets,
massaged, and facialed till we could barely stand the pleasure any more.
I highly recommend this level of pampering whenever you can afford it.
After 3 hours of bliss, we strolled along the square then went for dinner
at Black Angus in Vallejo. Their prime rib is always tender, juicy, and
delicious - the perfect protein rich meal to continue our day of indulgence.
Dinner was followed by a bit of hot tubbing, chilled champagne, and a good
night's sleep.
